Winter Storm Reminders

A message from DTE:

DTE Energy is closely monitoring an emerging winter weather system forecasted to move across our service area. It's expected to bring multiple waves of high winds with gusts over 40mph coupled with wet and heavy snow. The greatest risk is after 5pm Friday (1/12) through 7pm Saturday (1/13). This weather system may bring down trees and branches, leading to downed power lines and service disruption.

DTE is Ready to Restore Any Outages as Quickly and Safely as Possible

Schools will be monitored and targeted for restoration in time for Tuesday (Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is on Monday)

DTE will work with local community leaders to prioritize restoration to warming centers

We will be strategically placing crews in the field ahead of the storm to expedite restoration

We have ramped up the number of crews available to restore power by securing additional crews from neighboring states

Please Remember to Keep Safety Top of Mind

  • Be careful as you head outside – live downed wire can be covered up or out of sight after falling. Be mindful of supervising children and pets outdoors.
  • Always consider wires live and dangerous – please remember to stay 25 feet from downed wires and anything in contact with those wires.
  • Stay away from fallen trees or branches – they could have brought down a wire. Downed wires can look like sticks, so don’t pick any up.
  • Report outages or down wires – Call 800-477-4747, visit outage.dteenergy.com/report-outage, click below, or use the DTE Energy mobile app to report an outage.
  • DO NOT CROSS YELLOW CAUTION TAPE – everyone should also heed the warning of yellow caution tape, indicating a downed power line in the area.
  • Never use portable generators inside a home or business – they emit carbon monoxide, which can be deadly. Keep it outside, away from windows and doors, so fumes won’t come in.

With frigid temperatures sweeping the state, DTE is reminding customers that warming centers are available to provide relief from the cold. Each location is subject to availability and capacity restrictions – please call in advance for current information and only travel if the conditions are safe.
